A New Model For Indian Banking Industry Towards Environmentally Sustainable Development Practices

Abstract

The study aims to draw a model for the banking industry to respond to the challenges of sustainable development in current times. The study looks at the current financial environment and the different initiatives that shape up sustainable development practices in the finance industry.

The study identifies how the challenges of sustainable development is being addressed by banking institutions across the globe and what are the existing frameworks that address the challenges of financing for a sustainably developed society. Based on the issues emanating from the framework unstructured questionnaires were administered to executives of the banking industry which also include trainers from banking industry. These interviews sought to find out the level of awareness of the executives on the issue of SD and further understand how concerned executives address the issue of SD in financing various ventures.

Exploratory

The study has outlined a model of SD for the Banking industry which draws enablers for addressing the issue of sustainable development financing specially in Indian conditions. The prevailing environment is not geared to implement a structure for SD financing and the model that has been drawn could be used by the banking industry to develop sustainable development financing systems.
