Abstract

Combinatorics form an important chapter in mathematics and Sanskrit prosody is a method based on rhythms and arrangement of tones used by poets to create poetry. Acharya Pingala, a 3rd century Indian poet and mathematician contributed immensely in the field of combinatorics in his work Chandahsastra. In this paper, we have made an attempt to show how in ancient time work done by Pingala in Chandahsastra explored the modern binary system.
