Abstract

In this paper a two stage specially structured flow shop scheduling problem with set up times and job block criteria is considered in which processing times are associated with their respective probabilities, where optimization criteria are makespan and rental cost. The rental cost of machines is related to the set up time required for preparation of jobs on machines. The objective is to minimize rental cost of machines subject to minimum total elapsed time of jobs for two stage specially structured flow shop scheduling problem. Further, the set up time are separated from their processing time. The method proposed is very simple and easy to understand and also provide an important tool for the decision maker. The method is justified by numerical illustration.
