This paper deals with the comparison of a two dissimilar units cold standby system in which the assistant repairman needs instructions in repairing a unit or there may be the case that repairman does not need instructions in repairing a failed unit. Two models have analysed with the dissimilar unit cold standby system with instruction time, replacement and preventive maintenance and examined under the assumption that the standby unit being substandard, is replaced on failure. In Model 1, the whole system is repaired by the assistant repairman who needs instructions of an expert to repair the failed unit, but replacement of duplicate unit and the preventive maintenance when required are done by him without any instructions. In Model 2 the system is repaired by repairman who does not need instructions. In both the models, the priority for operation is given to the original unit if it is operable.
