Abstract

A field experiment was carried out at AMU, Aligarh (India) to find out the effect of foliar applied ethephon on physiological attributes and seed yield of two mustard (Brassica juncea) cv. “Alankar” and “PBM-16”. Ethephon spray (200 μL L−1) at flowering stage increased leaf area index, net photosynthesis rate and plant biomass which, in turn, resulted in marked increase in the number pods plant−1, seed number pod−1, 1000-seed mass, harvest index and seed yield in both mustard cultivars. The ethephon spray at flowering stage enhanced mustard seed yield through improving the assimilatory surface area, photosynthesis rate and plant biomass.
