Abstract

An investigation was conducted in pots on 40 genotypes of tulip (Tulipa sp.) during 2001–02 under 2 different environments viz. open field and polyhouse. Increased plant height, scape length and earlier flowering was recorded under polyhouse whereas higher bulb number and bulblet weight plant−1 was recorded in open conditions. Phenotypic coefficients of variation were higher than genotypic coefficients of variation for all characters studied under both the environments. All the characters showed high heritability, except bulb sprout and bulb number plant−1. High heritability with high genetic gain was observed for plant height, scape length and bulblet weight plant−1 under both the environments.
