The article examines the role ofuniversities in building a regional innovation system. Theactivity of higher educational institutions in the development of activities allows forming thecenters of innovative activity in the region and the institutional foundations of the regionalinnovation system. Currently, one of the forms of organizing and carrying out innovativeactivities is the model of educational, scientific and innovative complexes (UNICS). In marketconditions, universities for various reasons do not have the opportunity to integrate with scienceand production on cooperative terms, the process of integration is taking place in all types ofactivities by joining or acquiring other enterprises and organizations.
