Home based enterprises (HBEs) are an accepted component in the informal sector in rapidly developing cities. The number of women entrepreneurs choosing home based business as an alternative to working outside the home continues to expand. Women entrepreneurs can adjust their household schedule and business work easily in case of home based business. Most of the women entrepreneurs run home – based business to avoid traveling and dependency. The home-based business found in Udupi District are the manufacture of simple consumer items like agarbathi making, papad making, soft drink making, catering services, snacks making, toy making, service type of business like tailoring, embroidering, beauty parlors, and job typing. In this paper an effort is made to study their satisfaction of having business at home apart from studying the type of business and the requirements to rum them.
