Abstract

The emergence of the idea of India as a nation facilitated the growth of Indian womanhood. Inspired by the goal of achieving political citizenship for women, the three most important women's organizations namely, the All India Women's Conference, the Women's India Association and the National Council of Women in India presented a memorandum to the Joint Select Committee in 1933 in London. These organizations expressed their complete dissatisfaction with the prevailing franchise conditions for women ad favored all terms of equality with men. This awakening among women fuelled the national movement.
