Abstract

Sustainable development emphasis on the fact that social, environmental and economic factors depends upon the availability of earths natural resources. The aim of this paper to review the progress in the field of sustainable development and also discuss various initiatives taken up from time to time on the national and international levels, such as Rio Earth summit and Johansbhurg declaration on sustenance, and sustainable development as political challenge. Sustainable development implies the fulfilment of several conditions: preserving the overall balance, respect for the environment, and preventing the exhaustion of natural resources. Reduced production of waste and the rationalisation of production and energy consumption must also be implemented.
