Abstract

Biodiversity in simple words, means the vast variety of plant and animal life including microorganisms existing in any region. Civilization of humans, unplanned urbanization and industrialization has degraded the environment. Consequently the existence of many plants and animal species including humans has become threatened. Now an emphasis is being laid on the biodiversity conservation, though the very existence of this concept is there in Manu-Samhita, a Sanskrit text of early part of Christian era. Sustainable development is a new term that grew out of the conservation and/environment production movements aimed at preserving the Earth's resources. In present paper, an attempt is being made to summarize the some direct and indirect instructions about the biodiversity conversation in Manu-Samhita in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development.
