Abstract

Euthanasia became a live issue in India again after the Supreme court verdict holding that attempted suicide is not crime. Mercy killing is a serious ethical dilemma, as it may seemingly act like a compassionate way of ending the pain of people suffering through extreme mental or physical pain. In simple words, Euthanasia is a practice of ending a person's life in order to relieve the person from incurable illness, suffering, pain or an undignified death. Euthanasia is also seen to contradict one of the most basic principles of morality which defects killing completely.
