Abstract

Load balancing is a tool for operators of well-used networks who need to move the traffic around to take the pressure off congested links without compromising the service level agreements they are contracted to meet. Fast load balancing without oscillation is a challenging task for the network engineers. In this paper an enhanced variable splitting ratio based load balancing with oscillation removal algorithm was proposed for the MPLS enabled IP networks. The traffic of the over utilized paths were split to under utilized paths in a well controlled, iterative and faster manner. The splitting ratio was adaptively varied depending upon the difference between the traffic of the maximum loaded path and the minimum loaded load path. Load splitting was stopped when the splitting ratio become greater than the above difference. The simulation results showed that the number of iterations required to balance the load was reduced without oscillation.
