Abstract

Of all the organic conducting polymers, polypyrrole has been most studied and most frequently used for commercial applications. Most of the researches have been directed for its modifications from its amorphous and insoluble state to a state fit for commercial applications. Synthesis of polypyrrole and its modified forms, at nano level, was made possible and more accessible through chemical and electrochemical routes. Guided growth and localized synthesis has extended the scope of more varieties of polypyrrole at nano level for wider applications. Cyclic tetrapyrrole with Methane Bridge and existing in nature as porphyrins and porphin and their biodegraded and chemically degraded polymers and processed copolymers can add new dimensions to the study of pyrrole polymers and copolymers at nano level.
