Abstract

After the first freedom struggle of 1857 had failed to achieve its objective, the rule of Colonial Masters gave way to the direct takeover of the administration through the Charter Act of 1858. From a British Colony, India became a part of the British Empire and its administration over Indian affairs became more stringent and direct than ever. British had no trust in people who had participated or helped the Rulers in the uprising. Rather they penalized and punished those States that fought against them and even helped the Rulers. Rewari or South Haryana (Ahirwal) was among those regions that had not only helped Bahadurshah Zaffar both financially and militarily in the hours of need but also fought a battle at Nasibpur (Narnaul) against the British.
