This paper highlights the importance of Panipat as a historical town in medieval period. Panipat had all qualities of an average medieval city. It was situated on the bank of Yamuna river and was on the main route which connected Agra to Lahore. There is no doubt that Panipat was an important city which was on the trade route, so it was natural that Panipat also developed as a commercial town. Panipat was not only famous for its decisive battles, it was known for its commercial goods. Panipat was also a centre of sufism. Various references in historical texts and tombs of Sufi saints are source of information which can throw light on that part of the past which has till remained in the dark.
