Abstract

Academic success is regarded as a crucial factor in determining one’s overall potential and competence. In many academic contexts, a student's grade point average is considered their level of academic achievement. In today's fiercely competitive world, present academic success has come to be seen as a predictor of future success, and teacher education is not an exception. Therefore, it becomes essential to identify the variables that correlate with improved academic achievement. The current study was conducted in this context to investigate any potential associations between prospective teachers’ (as students) academic success and their educational background. The participants of the study were the D.El.Ed. students of DIETs of districts Lucknow, Sitapur and Unnao. The conclusions of the study showed that factors including gender, type of school, and educational programme had a big impact on their academic success. Academic achievement was somewhat influenced by the medium of instruction, but not considerably. It was also shown that students who excelled in their high schoolcurriculum also excelled in their university studies. This demonstrates that students’ past academic performance is the best predictor of their future success and that their educational background has a big impact on their academic success.
