External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India's role as a bridging power and highlighted the coexistence of multilateralism with national interests. He noted that India, from its early years of independence, placed trust in multilateralism by taking the Kashmir aggression issue to the United Nations. However, he acknowledged that geopolitical considerations led others to frame it as an “accession issue.” Jaishankar clarified that India should not be opposed to multilateralism, which operates as a basic common ground, but stressed that it must align with national interests, calculations, and competitions. This perspective was shared during his address at the Raisina Dialogue, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Observer Research Foundation.
