Abstract

Open Access (OA) e-journals in Library and Information Science (LIS) provide unrestricted online access to scholarly articles, promoting wider dissemination and equitable access to academic resources. OA journals have become pivotal in LIS due to their potential to enhance research visibility, encourages knowledge sharing, and foster collaborative advancements within the field. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) plays a crucial role by indexing high-quality, peer-reviewed OA journals across disciplines, including LIS. By providing a curated list of credible journals, DOAJ serves as a valuable resource for librarians, researchers, and academics, offering a transparent platform to identify reputable OA journals and avoid predatory publishers. This paper explores the impact of OA e-journals on LIS research, with an emphasis on DOAJ’s contribution to enhancing access to information, supporting academic rigor, and promoting open access principles. The study also discusses DOAJ and LIS Ejournals, advantages, challenges and future directions for OA in LIS, including sustainable funding models and quality control mechanisms. The study aims to provide insights into the future of OA publishing in LIS and underscore the importance of platforms like DOAJ in supporting academic integrity and accessibility.
