Higher Education System is the backbone of the economic, political and social structure of a nation. The high quality of this system only can ensure the growth, development and progress of a country. At present higher education system in India is infested with many ills. Particularly the quality of higher education in Haryana has declined steeply in recent times. Various evils have crept in the system from the very top level to the grassroots level. The role of all the stake holders --the policy makers, administrators, vice-chancellors, controllers of examinations, professors, parents and learners—is critically analysed in the context of contemporary social and moral values, and economic compulsions. All these personnel share the responsibility of maintaining the high quality of higher education in our country. Necessary steps are also suggested to face the challenges in the present scenario and to improve the higher education system.
