Abstract

The vernacular press and its publications were playing crucial role to break social harmony in Punjab. These publications published all matters in religious tones. They blamed each other's community. Not only this, it is important to describe that prominent leaders were also actively, participating in this. Therefore, province became strong example of communal violence in 1920s. Major communal riots happened in the province during this period. Many innocent people were killed in these communal riots. It can be rightly said that vernacular press and it's publication had played important role to increase communal disturbance in Punjab.
