Abstract

Polypyrrole was shown to be processable and stable in early 1990s. It is one of the conducting organic polymers and amongst this class of polymers it has been most studied as nanosized PPY and PPY nanocomposites. Both chemical and electrochemical methods have been used for their synthesis. In electrochemical routes of synthesis potentiostatic, poitentiodynamic and galvanostatic routes find wider application in the synthesis of PPY and its composites. Potentiodynamic (Cyclic voltametry) method has the additional advantage of studying the reaction mechanism in their synthesis. This paper is a mild effort to highlight the importance of electrochemical methods in the synthesis of PPY and its composites at nano level.
