If the development is to have any relevance to the tribal communities who need it the most, it must start where the real needs and problems exist. The development programmes must ensure the participation of these communities in the four stages of the development process: decision making, implementation, sharing of benefits, and evaluation. The existing media set-up as well as the extension networks of the government are of little relevance and use for tribal communities. There is a lot of gap between the development support and the community access to them. Therefore, there is a need to evolve an alternative communication approach to reorient tribal development programmes. The present paper makes an attempt to develop an alternative communication approach towards the development of tribal communities. Further, it advocates establishing community communication centres in every tribal dominated block.
