Privatization refers to the transfer of shares or assets from the public to the private sectors which is also called denationalization. The present paper traces the major events of privatization of higher education. It is an urgent need to understand the private sector in higher education as there is much more literature and information on public than on the private education. In simple terms, it begins with a review of policies, committees and reports with their influence on higher education in India. How it is differ from those in public sector?
