Status and Challenges of the Northeast Women: Quest for New Humanity

The region of northeast India has witnessed turmoil for quite some time now. In times of conflict women were the victims. Modern forms of evils such as violence against women, drug addictions etc. have replaced earlier forms of. abstract interpretation of evil and their embodiments. Replacement of one form of evil by another is also a marker of how the present social order cannot negotiate certain inner conflicts that arise from the very social configuration of actors. This paper will attempt to find out the status of women in the particular region. Considering the large number of ethnic groups that are politicized and militarized in Northeast India today, the region's ethnos cape requires some explanation. However the process of standardization had a weak impact on northeast and didn't change the region much. The cultural distance between the highlanders and the lowlanders has been reproduced in the region's ethnos cape, though it is a continuumno sharp distinctions have been found.
