Abstract

Learner performances vary between different mathematics classrooms. Whether in South Africa, other African countries or overseas, the views around teacher and learner attributes overlap, but approaches to dealing with poor maths performances differ considerably. Although learners interest in mathematics is important, nevertheless, teacher and learner goals can interrupt the overall maths performance of the learner. This paper addresses learner performances in different mathematics classrooms that are found within South Africa, and in comparison to other countries, like Honduras, Finland and Singapore.
