India's strategic orientations need to be adjusted to go beyond the Indian Ocean region to the Pacific Rim. Indo-Pacific region has attracted more attention from a number of major developed and developing nations including India from strategic point of view. Discussions and debate have been whether region is subject to great power rivalry or economic interdependence will overcome the conflicts and will lead to a single strategic system in the Indo-Pacific region by combining accelerated economic and security connections. China's overwhelming capabilities and aggressiveness signalled through its military posturing has emerged as a major challenges to the successful building of an Indo-Pacific security architecture. To play a more proactive and positive role India needs to sharpen its diplomatic skills, and widen the scope of its regional engagements at bilateral and multilateral security dialogues that will help to build consensus for collective security arrangement.
