Abstract

If one wants to see a depiction of how families are structured in India and how they pass through their struggle to achieve their goals in life; and how their family values keep them bound to their roots and help them overcome the emotional sufferings in their journey of life; then one can find ample material in Kamala Markandaya's novels. She has successfully described situations, problems, yearnings, aspirations, failures and weaknesses of her protagonists; and her themes have profound socio-cultural and psychological significance, her fiction do not belong to any particular period of time but reflect the feelings, the emotions and concerns of all people through the passage of time.
