Abstract

Nanorobot is a computer controlled robotic device constructed of nanometer scale components to molecular precision, usually microscopic in size (often abbreviated as nanobot). The growing interest in the future if dental applications of nanotechnology are leading to the emergence of a new field called Nanodentistry. Nanorobots induce oral analgesia, desensitize teeth, manipulate the tissues to realign and straighten the malpositioned teeth and further nanodentistry explains the role of nanorobots in preventive, restorative and curative procedures. Although it is difficult to project how many of the open-ended possibilities suggested by molecular nanotechnology will be realized by the year 2020, several innovations seem worth considering. Nanodentistry will give a new visionary to comprehensive oral health care, as now trends of oral health have been changing to more preventive intervention than a curative and restorative procedure. Currently this science might sound like a fiction, but it has strong potentials in revolutionizing the diagnosis and treatment procedures in dentistry and also opens new ways for vast research works. The number of scientists who question whether nanotechnology is possible at all is steadily shrinking; it is not hard to see why. Nanotechnology is based on known laws of physics and chemistry, not theories that need to be proved. So however futuristic they may seem, sound projections of technological possibilities are quite distinct from predictions. They rest on timeless laws of nature, not on the vagaries of events.".This article describes applications of nanotechnology in dentistry.
