Abstract

Recent economic reforms have led to effective policy changes in financial and fiscal sectors, licensing regime, external sector, patent regime, investment pattern of public sector and structure of state monopolies. Achievement of six to six and half per cent annual growth in real G.D.P. in the past few years has been counted as a direct consequence of economic reforms. But in the current year, economy is showing sluggishness particularly in the industrial sector, exports and import of capital goods. Besides, analysis of regional dimensions of gains of such reforms suggests that India's north east has received very little direct benefit. Planners must look into it.
