The paper quantifies the gains to producers and consumers due to shift in rice supply resulting from technological change and due to the price change in major rice growing states. It observed that technological change in rice production during triennium ending 1982–83 was over Rs. 4250 million at 1969–70 prices. The gain rose to Rs. 15000 million during triennium 1994–95. Non-rice producing consumers are the major beneficiaries in both the years.
