The study examines the economic viability of Aril Watershed Development Project in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The results inlicate the project was economically viable with 252 lakh of NPV and 1.39 of BCR at 12 per cent of discount rate. The project also with stood increase in costs by 10 per cent and decrease in benefits even to the extent of 20 per cent. The land use pattern revealed a decline in the area under wasteland and increase in the area under irrigated agriculture, forestry and horticulture. Therefore, the watershed development approach may be replicated in other dryland areas for the development of agriculture along with conserving the precious natural resources of the area.
