Abstract

This paper analyses profitability and sustainability of improved oilseeds production technologies for eight annual oilseed crops, viz. groundnut, sunflower, sesame, niger, castor, rapeseed-mustard, linseed and safflower. It also estimates the yield gaps and adoption profile. It uses data from front line demonstrations for oilseed crop, conducted at 65 centres of the All India Coordinated Project on Oilseeds (ICAR) since 1988–89. Some farm level survey results on adoption are also presented. The findings indicate that there are significant productivity gaps in all the crops considered which can be bridged through focussed extension efforts.
