Profitability and financial viability of mango and kinnow plantations in Himachal Pradesh

There is large scope for increase in the area under fruits in Himachal Pradesh, provided farmers are given incentives. The profitability and financial viability of mango and kinnow plantations in a zone of Himachal Pradesh have been evaluated by using the inter-temporal budgeting technique. Primary data on costs and returns were collected from sample growers for the year 1998–99. The kinnow plantation was found to be financially more viable than that of mango plantation. The financial viability parameters for mango as well as kinnow plantations were found to be more sensitive to changes in gross returns as compared to changes in costs.
