The present study has carried out economic analysis of dairy marketing in the district Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh using multistage stratified random sampling technique. In the three milk marketing channels identified for the study, channel-I (Producer–Consumer) with no intermediaries has been found beneficial to both producer and consumer; producer gets 98.03 per cent share in consumer rupee, while consumer gets milk at a lower rate. But only a small volume of milk is marketed through this channel. The channel-II (Producer–Dudhia–Consumer) has been found the major channel of milk marketing, handling about 50–60 per cent of total milk marketed. The results have shown that only one market intermediary captures about 11 per cent of consumer rupee. In channel-III (Producer–Vender–Chilling Centre–Milk Plant/Processor), milk price is increased and the share of producer in consumer rupee gets decreased. Two intermediaries involved in milk marketing system capture about one-third of consumer's price. The study has suggested that milk producers should become organised under cooperativebased marketing system to sell their milk through channel-I to maximize their profit.
