The paper has focused on the status of sea food supply chain in India and has examined the global sea food industry, the stakeholders to the supply chain, their role, income and conditions; the state of landing centres and of wholesale and retail markets in the country. It has highlighted the need for development of consumer-specific products and convenience foods, besides meeting demand for food services. The paper has outlined the importance of reducing wastages by product labelling, brand creation, and efficient packaging, and through will-developed supply chain management. It has described the case studies of two organized retail stores in sea food supply chain management. It has been observed that India has great potential in sea food marketing and diversification into newer products. Appropriate training, technical guidance, sound infrastructural facilities, and increased subsidies will help in reduction of production cost and increase in profitability of farmers in both domestic and international markets.
