Abstract

This paper presents a brief review of the technologies, rural ICT projects and the issues associated with the use of ICT for rural development and has discussed the impact of ICT on rural development and sustainability. The study has indicated that ICT use must be adequate and as per the skills of the poor. The paper has suggested e-powering of rural India and has discussed effects of ICT projects on poverty reduction and rural empowerment. The power of connectivity can transform the prevailing ailing system and can empower rural poor with the power of information, which can be converted into knowledge and further to wealth generation. The ICTs can do significant value addition in both production and marketing chains of agricultural commodities.
