Abstract

The paper has studied various policies of government on retail marketing along with the impact of retail sector on the farming community. The study conducted in the Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh is based on both primary and secondary data on three vegetables for the rabi season of 2007–08. The study has revealed that net income of the group linked with the retail sector was more than the group not linked with the retail sector in all the three vegetables crops. The study has emphasized on the need of a clear policy by the government on the retailing of agricultural commodities. The corporate retail sector has shown positive effect on the farming community but only when it goes for direct procurement, indirect procurement method has not shown any impact on the farming community.
