Abstract

In this paper, market research for different aqua feed companies, their demand, market share, pricing and credit policy along with a study on farmers’ expectations has been conducted in the state of Odisha. For the study, information was collected from 35 aqua feed dealers and 35 farmers using a questionnaire. It has been found that company C.P. Feed leads in the market share. Most of the farmers prefer to get feed on credit. Different credit policies are adopted by different feed companies, viz., C.P. Feed, Waterbase, Avanti, Godrej, Grobest, Goldcoin and B-Meg. Some companies have same credit policy. The dealers provide shrimp feed to farmers according to their financial status and repayment capacity. Giving credit to farmers also depends on the relation between farmers and dealers. Farmers usually don't change their feed brand unless they suffer a big loss of crop. The farmers perceived that as regards the quality, all the feed brands and companies were same and their compositions were also more or less same. In addition to product, farmers expect technical support, good service, credit facility, high quality, high nutritive value, and feed supply as and when needed. Dealers play a main role in creating market of aqua feed as they have a direct contact with farmers.
