Inclusion of Excusive Lands in Andhra Pradesh — The Ways and Means

The paper has dealt with the issue of inclusion of the excluded lands for agricultural production by adopting various measures. Promoting mixed farming by encouraging horticultural crops, vegetable cultivation, dairying and poultry, etc. is one of the strategies being adopted by the state government to enable crop diversification in the drylands. Increasing forest area as social forestry with fruits and other valuable plantations is another step towards inclusion of the excluded lands. These efforts have led to an increase in the share of non-food commodities in the state. For the development of excluded (poor) lands into productive assets, a model has been suggested. The study has emphasized on the need of formulating policies helping in the sustainable management of land and water resources so as to prevent land from becoming degraded and waste.
