This paper has explored the resource-use pattern being followed in Punjab and the implications thereof on the sustainability of agriculture. The study is based on the secondary data collected from various published sources and websites for the period 1980 to 2010. The input usage has been compared with the trends in productivity and costs of production of rice and wheat crops to account for the harmful effects of unsustainable agriculture in a quantifiable form. The paper has also documented the recommended conservation techniques and the impediments faced in their successful implementation.
