Role of Tribal Women in Non-Farm Activities of Tasar Sector and its Socio-Economic Impact on their Livelihood Security

The study has analysed the impact of participation of tribal women in non-farm activities of the tasar sector on socio-economic status and their livelihood security. The study was undertaken in five districts of Bihar and Jharkhand and primary data were collected from 106 families. It has analysed the general profile of these tribal women such as family size, landholding, source of income, status of production and earning, period of engagement, income from the vocation, etc. The information has also been collected on the utilization of their income and the key areas of socio-economic impact, viz., migration, food security, asset creation, repayment of debts and the future plan for utilization of income. The data have also been collected about the workload of these tribal women. A brief on technical and organizational innovations to mobilize and empower these tribal women to take up nonfarm activities has also been included.
