Abstract

Considering the importance of sugarcane crop and its low per hectare yield in Maharashtra, this study was conducted in three main districts, viz. Satara, Pune and Kolhapur in western Maharashtra. In these districts, Satara and Kolhapur come under high sugar recovery zone, whereas Pune is under medium recovery zone. The primary data were collected from 250 sugarcane cultivators using random sampling technique. The awareness level of the respondents regarding recommended sugarcane production practices was found very low and consequently, the adoption of recommendations was also very poor. The lack of information was the major cause of this non-adoption. The study has suggested strengthening of extension services delivery to disseminate the recommended technologies for boosting sugarcane productivity in Maharashtra.
