In the marketing of highly perishable products like fruits and vegetables, supply chain plays a crucial role. The supply chains for fruits and vegetables are characterized with long and fragmented linkages, high wastages, low producer share in consumer rupee and high price spread, and therefore are unable to meet the growing demand for quality and hygienic fruits and vegetables in the market. In this context, the establishment of a modern terminal market in Gujarat, on the basis of PPP model, will benefit both farmers and consumers. The modern terminal market intends to help the market operators and their trading partners to operate more efficiently. These efficiencies will result in greater turnover for the entire supply chain. This will fuel the growth of horticultural development in the region. Therefore, modern terminal markets will fulfil the aspirations of horticulture sector in the state and will strengthen the supply chain of fruits and vegetables in the region.
