Export Performance of Horticulture Products under ‘Other Processed Fruits and Vegetables’ Group from India

The export of horticultural products from India under the group ‘other processed fruits and vegetables’ has been studied for the period 1989–90 to 2013–14. Besides identifying major export destinations, the study has estimated mean, compound growth rate, instability and diversification. The instability and diversification status has been found using Simpson index of diversification. The study has found that the number of export destinations has increased over time, from 48 in 1989–90 to 141 in 2013–14; the major among these being USA, Saudi Arab, UK, Netherlands and UAE during the study period. The average growth in this export sector has been computed as 14.53 per cent w.r.t. quantity and 21.07 per cent w.r.t. value. High growth has been found coupled with high instability and moderate level of instability has been observed at the overall level. Except during the initial levels, high level of diversification has been observed.
