Inevitability of a Revamped Innovation System for Inclusive Growth: Evidence from Plantation Crops Sector in India

The plantation sector in India is dominated by millions of small and marginal farmers and the major challenge is to develop an equitable and sustainable plantation sector ensuring the inclusive growth. The present article has provided a glimpse of ongoing socio-economic issues of plantation crops sector of India and subsequently has carried out crop-wise analysis to draw conclusions. The paper has suggested to realign the production structure of the plantation crops according to the domestic and international price signals to make the sector more sustainable. Corrections in the existing institutional voids hold adequate importance to avoid the marginalization of vulnerable smallholders in the country.
