The study has looked into the present status and future prospectus of cotton ginning mills in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. It has investigated value addition, benefit-cost ratio and employment pattern of these cotton ginning mills. The study has found that the annual net profit per cotton ginning mill was 1.43 lakh and it increased with increase in the size of unit. The net benefit-cost ratio was 0.39. In a cotton ginning mill, 37 workers were employed for 132 days in a year. The study has found that cotton ginning mills provided maximum employment per lakh rupees investment (903 man-days). The average capacity utilization was 43.79 per cent. The study has revealed that the low capacity utilization of cotton ginning mills was mainly due to irregular supply of electricity, and non-availability of skilled labour at proper time.
