The paper has studied livelihood security in the tribal area of Nashik district in Maharashtra by collecting data from 140 households on income, expenditure and food consumption by survey method. From food consumption data, nutritional security has been estimated in terms of per capita protein intake, carbohydrate intake, and calorie intake. The study has revealed crop production, livestock-rearing and wages to be the major sources of livelihood security of the respondents. The analysis of family income and expenditure has revealed that gross income and expenditure has revealed that gross income of sample households was sufficient to meet consumption and production expenditure. At the overall level, the total per-capita per-day intake has been found to be 87.7 grams of protein 385 grams of carbohydrates and 2584 kcal. The study has revealed that though perday calorie intake was on higher side, the food basket was not balanced.
