The paper has studied the economics of value-added products of sorghum, viz. sorghum roti, roasted sorghum, chaff-cutted fodder of sorghum, etc. The marketing of sorghum roti through the marketing channel, Women Selfhelp Group at outskirts of Solapur district → Udyogvardhini Women Self-help Group → Hotels → Consumers, has revealed an annual profit of 9 lakh besides providing rount-the-year employment to women. The roasting of sorghum has also been found a profitable venture and has depicted B-C ratio in the range of 2.57 to 3.15, depending upon the place of unit, but is more than 4 unity in all the units. The marketing of chaff-cutted fodder of sorghum has also been found at all three units studied, in which B-C ratio has been found to range from 1.35 to 1.48. Considering the growing demand of value-added products of sorghum, the study has suggested development of infrastructural and processing facilities at the village level. The value-addition in post-rainy season sorghum will provide a better management of produce and help the farmers in generating higher income.
