Abstract

The study has looked into the pattern of mango prices and their correlation with the arrivals in the Lucknow market of Uttar Pradesh, by collecting data for the period 1993–2014 from APMC, Lucknow. The seasonal indices have been calculated for price and arrivals of mango and trend analysis has been done through different equational forms. The study has found that the demand for this high-value commodity always exists, but due to seasonality of the product, the prices fluctuate. The trends in prices and arrivals have revealed that prices are low during the season with arrival of large quantities of mango and vice versa during off-season. The correlation coefficient between price and arrivals has been found to be statistically non-significant in all the years of the study period. The study has suggested that proper storage facilities and regulated markets will help the farmers of get good prices for their produce.
